Jeff Mangum taught out of Psalm 19 last Sunday to complete the two part series on the value of God’s word.
how would it change our daily routine if we really believed what David said in this Psalm about the word of God, (especially the part that I bolded below)?
7(G) The law of the LORD is perfect,[c]
(H) reviving the soul;
(I) the testimony of the LORD is(J) sure,
(K) making wise(L) the simple;
8(M) the precepts of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the LORD is(N) pure,
(O) enlightening the eyes;
9the fear of the LORD is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules[d] of the LORD are(P) true,
and righteous altogether.
10More to be desired are they than(Q) gold,
even much(R) fine gold;
(S) sweeter also than honey
and drippings of(T) the honeycomb.
11Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
(U) in keeping them there is great reward.

Give Yourself to the Word
God has a gift for you in 2010. An infinitely valuable gift—his word. Receive it. Hold it fast. Give yourself to it. Amen.
But most of us won’t. why is that?
I like what Matt Chandler said… We are all looking for new revelation instead of acting on what we already know to do… If we would just obey the word we have already heard from God our lives would be radically changed.
I have taken up the challenge you posted a few days ago and am about 8 times through Ephesians and am now adding Colossians. Goal is to go through each at least 20 times. Feeling like an idiot today because I am 41 year old lifelong Christian and never realized how similar these two books are….shameful, right?

I always wonder how we are supposed to obey Heb. 3:13 if we don’t know the Bible. We end up just giving each other encouragement and advice based on how we feel about whatever the situation is. Thus we are at risk as a group of being hardened by the deceitfulness of sin together and none of us are any good for each other to avoid that consequence.
I’m going to do the 20 times each thing too, but I think I’m going to start with III John. I want to get a wide margin bible for notes before I start.
As far as being 41 and learning something, that is a beautiful thing. the day we stop learning is the day we die.
I was 36 and had been teaching the Bible for more than ten years before I read it cover to cover. Talk about shameful.
